A well packed trekking bag not only goes a long way in adding to your carrying comfort but can also accommodate an amazing amount of gear. These few basic guidelines could help you along the way.-
1. Starting from the bottom of your sack, pack in bulky and light weight material there- like sleeping bags and woollies.
2. Heavy weight goes in the middle and upper part of your sack, towards your back and shoulders. This ensures proportionate distribution of load throughout your pack –Camping stove, food rations, water bladder, technical gear.
3. Medium weight should be packed on the outer edge of your sack. Your clothes and other essentials
4. Things that would be handily required during your trek such as your torch, poncho or munchies should be within easy access and kept in the flap and side pockets
5. Lastly in order to combine all your equipment into one compact load, make sure all buckles are fastened and all compression straps are tightened enabling the centre of gravity of the sack to move closer towards your centre of gravity. This also prevents the load from shifting as you hike.
Be sure weight is equally balanced on each side.
